News Updates

Illawarra Branch - November 2016

We have been quite busy over the past few months, with a number of members also finding the time to attend the APS Congress in Melbourne in September. It was good to catch up, and be treated to a wide choice of stimulating and thought provoking presentations and discussions.

Back home in Wollongong, we had the pleasure of hosting former APS NSW State Chair Agnes Levine, as our guest speaker for our Branch meeting – bringing us up to date with her presentation on the topic of WorkCover (now SIRA). Many thanks to Agnes, who made the journey from Sydney to present for us.

I would like to take this opportunity to also express our thanks to our Deputy Chair – Jason Pratt. Jason has been a long-serving committee and Executive Member of the APS Illawarra Branch. We appreciate your prolonged efforts Jason, and your loyal dedication, and we hope to see you maybe at Branch meetings.

Illawarra Branch Report - August 2016

Our main focus has been to provide interesting and useful CPD opportunities at our Branch meetings – quite a challenge with our broad range of members, from a wide catchment area. It would seem we need to make it pretty attractive to lure members from their couches – or catching Pokemon.

We have a lovely venue – at the City Diggers Club – where we are treated like royalty, and the rates and food are very appealing. But what do members want? How can we inspire you to join us in our friendly, inspiring and enjoyable networking and CPD opportunities?? Any suggestions warmly welcomed.

Apologies are due for our previous meeting – where due to a communication breakdown – ( yes…..I know…..we’re Psychologists) – our speaker failed to materialise.

Moving right along….. our most recent Branch meeting in July was a success -  with an interesting presentation from Tom Frengos – who inspired a lively discussion with his presentation entitled Cultural chameleons and tall poppies. Tom has a book of the same name, which raises interesting aspects of the interplay of culture in our work.

We hope to present equally intriguing topics at our future meetings – possibly a presentation regarding WorkCover, to clarify and inspire.

We are sad to inform that our long-standing Committee Member, current Deputy Chair and former Chair has chosen to stand down after 12 years due to personal reasons. We would like to thank Jason Pratt and wish him all the best – we’ll be in touch and hope you can find time to join us in the future.

Watch this space for further news.
