A Day of Narrative Practice in the Blue Mountains

Dear Member,

The Sydney based Narrative Theory and Practice Interest Group, invites you to a day of Narrative Practice in the beautiful Blue Mountains outside Sydney. Please see the flyer we have added to this email. The goal of the day is to reflect on our Narrative work, share our knowledges and experiences and to discuss our hopes for our work and the ethics and values that inform what we do.It will be a wonderful chance to explore ways of supporting each other in our professional development and Narrative practice. Another purpose we have spoken about is the opportunity to look at ideas and suggestions for encouraging and invigorating the work of Narrative therapists in regions across Australia.

The regions are at the forefront of our thoughts, in particular how to include and encourage connections and sense of community between all Narrative practitioners, especially those who feel isolated in practicing from this stance. With this in mind,we are offering flights and accommodation to a limited number of people to come to the Blue Mountains to join us for the day long retreat. Our hopes are to share conversations with you aroundyour intentions for Narrative practices in your area.We would like to support the ideas you have about being part of a larger group of psychologists using post-structuralist ideas, and how we can best support each other in exploring ethics and accountability in our work. This may involve using virtual outsider-witness teams, or doing reflective practice conversations on Skype. So if you want to represent your state or region email us straight away – there are only limited places!

The good news is that there may be some funding available from the Narrative Theory and Practice Interest Group which could be offered as seeded funding to help in the setting up ofregional networkteams. An aim of the Sydney group has been to use our committee as an Outsider Witness team and other groups may like to do the same or have their own ideas.

If you live outside NSW and are interested in sharing this day, please contact us as soon as possible!
