We are delighted that Dr Nick Reynolds FAPS, newly elected to the APS Board will attend and provide updates from the Board in Q & A style. Nick will also go through his PD model which people should find very useful. Nick has held various State and national positions with the APS, including as a member of the Queensland Branch Executive (1991), Secretary of the ACT Branch (1996-1997), and member of the APS Governance Review Steering Committee (2004-2006). In 2011, Nick was appointed to the APS Board of Directors and in that capacity chaired the APS Professional Development Advisory Group and sat on the APS Professional Practice Advisory Group. Nick Reynolds is an independently practising organisational psychologist and has consulted in this capacity to a wide variety of organisations since 2003. Prior to this time, he spent 17 years as an Army psychologist, leaving with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During this period he worked on such issues as policy for dealing with PTSD in veterans, performance management, psychological assessment, organisational modelling, and human resources initiatives. He also ran the Army's psychological research unit.
Come with your questions for Nick and for the APS North Coast Branch Committee Executive and then enjoy pre-dinner drinks and the relaxed cuisine on offer at Bangalow Espresso and Pizzabar. Nick has requested some questions prior to the event so that he can find out information from APS national office if he needs updating on any of the issues. We particularly look forward to new members coming along to this event and networking with peers.
Please RSVP to Robyn Warburton <email@example.com> if you will be attending and with any questions for Nick, or if you wish to send apologies. Registrations are now open for the Christmas function season on the North Coast. This year the APS North Coast Branch Christmas function will be held at the Lennox Headland Resort on December 5th, commencing at 6:30pm. This will be followed by a one day workshop on December 6th (also at IWok, Lennox Headland Resort 7 Park Lane, Lennox Head NSW 2478).
The evening seminar and one day workshop will be provided by Professor Bob Montgomery and Dr Laurel Morris: Recognising and Treating the Deleterious Impacts of Traumatic Developmental Experiences. Professor Montgomery and Dr Morris will focus on the evidence base supporting the inclusion of a Developmental Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (DPD) in diagnostic nosologies, such as ICD and DSM. Such recognition of the impact of the prolonged exposure to childhood abuse and neglect on adult functioning and vulnerability to developing PTSD would inform psychological assessment and treatment planning. For example, one implication may be that the successful treatment of PSTD in adulthood may require that the underlying DPD also be addressed.
