Shoalhaven Branch Chair Report- November 2016

As the year rapidly draws to a close, we are gearing up for one final event – the all-important Christmas function. This year it will be held at St Isidore (88 Croobyar Rd, Milton) Fri 2 Dec at 6.30pm. Dinner will consist of a three-course set menu, and registration is via the APS Events website. As always, partners are welcome.

In conjunction with the Christmas dinner, we will be holding the Branch AGM. If you would like to be more involved with the Branch committee, then please consider nominating for the upcoming positions of Secretary or Committee Member. For those wishing to nominate please complete the Branch Nomination Form and email the completed form to ig@psychology.org.au. Nominations close seven days before the AGM (Midnight Fri 25 Nov 16).

I would like to publicly thank the outgoing members. Anne Christoffersen has done a fabulous job as secretary and I have been very grateful for her assistance and efforts over the last few years. Similarly, Janelle Shephard has provided great support within the committee and managing the Branch PD library. Their efforts have been greatly appreciated.

For those who have not yet taken advantage of the $100 discount on the APS Institute e-learning packages, you have until the 31 Dec 16 to register for a course. But don’t panic! Once registered, you have six-months to complete the course. So you will still be able to enjoy your Christmas break J

Finally, I wish you and all your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Shoalhaven Branch Chair Report - June 2016

As I write, this winter seems to have finally hit the Shoalhaven. To tempt you outside, the Branch is planning an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the APS. Specifically, we will be meeting at Cuppitts Winery for lunch and to reminisce about the changes which have occurred in our profession, through the APS and within our Branch …. and, ok maybe a wine or two to celebrate. Dates, timings and costings will be forwarded to members by email.

A recent and significant change has occurred in Nowra. For many years the Branch has held meetings at Judy Leung’s practice. She has recently moved locations and we are still exploring options for future Nowra meetings. I would like to thank Judy for her generous support of the APS Branch over the years.

As always, the Branch is working to provide members with PD opportunities. In March, a half day workshop Ways to teach mindfulness was held at Milton. This was well attended and favourably reported on. Many thanks to Chris, Karen and Janelle for organising this activity. Another PD activity will be scheduled for September and December .. stay tuned for updates.
In the meantime, stay toasty, warm and dry.

Shoalhaven Branch Chair Report - March 2016

Welcome to 2016! This year we are exploring and identifying the most appropriate options for promoting APS psychologists in the region and presenting information regarding psychologists preferred treatment areas, hours and client base in a format which is relevant and appropriate for GPs and other providers. This initiative has progressed from Janelle Shephard’s research and the presentation she provided to the Branch in Oct 14.

Several local PD opportunities are also being developed. In March we will conduct our first workshop Ways to teach mindfulness. This is a half-day workshop and will be conducted at Milton.

Following the interest generated by Glenn William’s overview of the Australian Indigenous Psychologists Association (AIPA) Cultural Awareness Workshop, the Branch committee will explore options for collaborating with AIPA and bringing the workshop to the local area in the second half of 2016.

As in previous years we will be collaborating with the Illawarra Branch and the APS Institute to bring more quality workshops to the region.

We will also be purchasing several training DVDs from TATRA, which members can utilise for their own professional development.

Branch meetings will continue to be held bi-monthly and I encourage you to attend.

Any suggestions members may have in relation to the above initiatives or any other support they would like to receive from the Branch would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing members at either the Branch meeting or at one of the PD activities.
