Transport information

Travelling to Noosa

Air

Flights from most Australian capital cities arrive at and depart from Sunshine Coast Airport at Maroochydore, which is approximately 30 minutes' drive south of Noosa. Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Tiger Airways all fly into Sunshine Coast Airport.

Brisbane airport is Queensland's domestic and international gateway, with over 200 flights departing and arriving daily. 

Bus transfers

There are a number of bus services to and from Brisbane Airport. Greyhound Australia operates an extensive bus network around Australia, with Noosa a popular stop for many travellers. Road

Noosa is an easy 1½ hour drive north of Brisbane along the Bruce Highway. Take the turn-off at Eumundi and follow the signs along the Eumundi-Noosa Road. If you're arriving from the north, Noosa is about one hour south of Gympie. Just continue on the Bruce Highway out of Gympie and turn off at Cooroy then follow the signs along the Cooroy Noosa Road until you reach Noosa.

Driving licences

International driving licences are recognised throughout Australia. Car rental companies ask for a valid driving licence.

Car hire

All major car hire companies, including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty, operate in Australia and vehicles may be hired at Brisbane - see http://bne.com.au/to-from-airport/car-rentals Alternatively, if you wish to hire a car whilst you are in Noosa visit http://www.noosacarrentals.com.au/.

Transport for hire

Licensed drivers can choose from environmentally friendly scooters and zip around the town streets, or embark on a day trip or multi-day journey in small, medium or family-sized car and four wheel drive.

Aircraft and helicopters can also be charted for a bird's eye view of Noosa and the surrounding regions or if you prefer travelling by water, why not hire a canoe, kayak, catamaran, party pontoon or motorised boat and see the Noosa River and Laguna Bay at your own pace. Taxi

Taxis and buses are available for transfers to Noosa from the Sunshine Coast airport. Taxi ranks are located in all major Noosa shopping precincts or taxis can be called on 131 008.

By rail

Noosa is a well laid-out and relatively level town with a variety of transport options for getting around the area. It is also a community that embraces alternative transport choices and encourages travel behaviour change.

Local buses

Buses wend their way along Noosa's main thoroughfares and to railway stations, beaches and attractions including Eumundi markets. Look out for bright blue buses that stop at the well-marked stops when hailed. Pick up a brochure or find out about timetables at www.translink.com.au.

Ferry

Listen for the sounding of the whistle that announces the Noosa Ferry is on the move. The Noosa Ferry makes regular trips along the river from Noosa Marina at Tewantin to the Sheraton Jetty at Hastings Street. Passengers can hop on and off, listen to expert commentary and take in the scenery, other river craft, jetties, and magnificent riverside homes along the way.

Bicycle

Noosa has an extensive network of bike tracks, including an increasing number of green bicycle lanes designed to keep cyclists safe. Bring or hire a bike and see the sights on two wheels - the terrain is mostly flat and you will avoid parking hassles, save the environment and avoid peak hour traffic.

Walking

Noosa has an abundance of relatively level beach and riverside boardwalks and pathways so don some comfortable shoes and spend time taking in the sights of Noosa. Noosa's stunning luxury homes and breathtaking natural surrounds are best experienced on foot.
