Terms of Reference
The APS ePsychology Interest Group is dedicated to fostering a comprehensive and inclusive understanding of the intersection between psychology and digital technologies.
The terms of reference for the ePsychology Interest Group are as follows:
1. Scope of Engagement: To create an extensive network of members and stakeholders from diverse psychological fields across Australia who are committed to advancing the integration of digital technologies in psychological practice and research, including but not limited to artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, wearables, telehealth, online assessment tools and interventions, chatbots, software and hardware.
2. Knowledge Sharing: To facilitate the exchange of relevant information regarding emerging digital technologies, innovative practices, and research findings, thereby supporting members in staying informed about the latest advancements in the field.
3. Professional Development: To provide opportunities for professional development through webinars, workshops, and seminars that focus on best practices, ethical considerations, and effective integration of digital technologies in psychological services.
4. Collaborative Discussion: To foster a collaborative environment for members to engage in discussions about challenges, successes, and strategies related to digital interventions, including their implementation and outcomes.
5. Research and Policy Development: To explore and promote research initiatives that evaluate the effectiveness of digital technologies in psychological practice and collaborate with relevant APS teams on the formulation of evidence-based policies and guidelines that ensure the ethical use of these technologies.
6. Community Engagement: In collaboration with relevant APS teams, enhance awareness of the role of psychology within the broader healthcare landscape, advocating for the contributions psychology can make, particularly in the application of digital health solutions to improve mental health outcomes.
7. Ethical Standards: In collaboration with relevant APS teams, prioritize ethical considerations in the use of digital technologies, to promote the highest standards of professionalism, privacy, and confidentiality, while promoting informed consent and data security.
By adhering to these Terms of Reference, as well as the APS Constitution, Generic Rules for Interest Groups, and APS policies, the APS ePsychology Interest Group aims to remain at the forefront of digital innovation in psychology, providing valuable resources and support to its members while positively impacting the psychology profession and the clients it serves.
