The Gippsland Branch services Eastern Victoria, from Nar Nar Goon, Koo-Wee-Rup, Grantville, Phillip Island and French Island to Mallacoota. This large area includes the Bass Coast, the Stresleckie Ranges, the Baw Baw Shire, the Latrobe Shire, Sale, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Orbost and Cann River.
Currently, we have approximately 165 APS members in this region.
The area is famous for its rich farmland, forest industries, coastal retreats, the excitement of the Phillip Island Racing, Alpine Regions and cross country skiing, historic Walhalla, Orbost and many national parks, including the Croajingolong National Park and the Snowy River National Park.
Among the many challenges that face our membership is the tyranny of distance. This is a relatively large region dotted with pockets of population. Medical and mental health services are stretched over a wide area.
Our branch is serviced from the Latrobe valley which, for many of our members is a four hour round trip. In the past, the area has been serviced by a number of smaller groups which, due to lack of time for our very busy and mobile membership, have not been able to continue. Currently, there is a South Gippsland Interest Group servicing the Bass Coats Shire.
