APS College of Clinical Psychologists

The Connect Program: Connecting Advisors with Junior Professionals

The APS College of Clinical Psychologists is proud to announce the launch of its new Connect Program (previously known as the Mentoring Program).

The Connect Program aims to connect junior professionals (final year postgraduate students, registrars, or early career psychologists) with more senior clinical psychologists as they navigate the clinical psychology profession. The relationship will be one of professional guidance whereby the advisor (senior clinical psychologist) can provide support and advice to the candidate (junior professional) on topics relating to professional and career development, see this article.

Areas of guidance may include, but are not limited to, self-care as a professional, dealing with workplace conflict, ethical dilemmas, or development of a professional identity.

What's involved?

The connection will be flexible – the advisor and candidate can collaboratively determine the preferred mode of contact, the frequency and duration of contact, and topics to be discussed. Ideally, contact can occur via teleconference, phone, e-mail, as well as face-to-face so that candidates can connect with advisors across Australia. Please note that these connections are not official clinical supervision relationships.

Connections will be made according to the candidate’s preferences from the advisor profile database. The APS College of Clinical Psychologists will make every effort to match the candidate’s preferences with the availabilities and expertise of the advisor.
